Still Life Still (SCQ's Year-End Questionnaire Part IV)

I happened upon this record accidentally, choosing to review it for No Ripcord on the assumption that Arts & Crafts wouldn’t let me down, and the Toronto-based imprint certainly didn’t. There are few albums I’ve listened to this year as consistently as Girls Come Too, and Still Life Still assemble to list their own records on repeat.

SCQ: What have been some of your favourite records of 2009? Gush away.

...so many too choose from .. animal collective's merriweather post pavillion , dirty projector's bitte orca, dd/mm/yyyy black square , phoenix's wolfgang amadeus phoenix , rural alberta advantage's hometowns , both of deerhunter's new records.

SCQ: Be it from the radio, lost on Myspace or from your roster, what song(s) could you not stop spinning?

small black - bad lover , haunted graffitti - wait for kate , black hat brigade - zombie city shake , grizzly bear - about face , deathset - negitive thinking

SCQ: Seldom celebrated but crucial to The Album’s identity is cover-art. Can you offer any shortlist of personal favourites from the past year?

definitely dd/mm/yyyy black square .

SCQ: When you look back on what transpired this year, what will stand out as your most memorable musical moment(s) of 2009?

recording and putting out our first record . touring north america , and playing sweet house-party shows with our friends

SCQ: Most of us probably haven’t thought as far as New Years Eve plans but still, looking forward, what do you have on the horizon for 2010?

writing and recording our new record! moving to nyc for a month to play shows at the mercury lounge , touring north america with wild beasts in february , and playing sxsw.
